I like to use triangle paper when making HSTs. This pattern requires HSTs that finish at 1-1/2”. If
you are using triangle paper please follow directions on the package.    Blocks are 4-1/2” finished.

Fabric needed:
Blue print or tone on tone -1/2 yard
Green- 1 FQ
Red print- 1 FQ
Red tone on tone- 1 FQ
Gold for stars- 1 FQ
Binding- ¼ yard or 1 FQ
Backing- 3/4 yard

If you are
not using triangle paper, here is an easy method:
Cut 2-1/2” squares of each color. Draw a line from corner to corner diagonally on the back of one
square. Place the colored squares face to face and sew ¼” away from the drawn lines on both sides.
Cut down the middle on the drawn line, and press each HST open with seam allowance facing the dark
side. Trim each to 2" square.

Friendship Star Block:  Make 13 stars
  • From gold fabric cut thirteen 2” squares
  • Make 52 HSTs with the gold and blue fabric. They must finish at 1-1/2”.
  • Make 52 HSTs with the red tone on tone and the blue fabric.
Follow the illustration for construction. Press the corner squares
toward the center and press middle seams away from the center. Sew the rows together and press
those seams away from the center. If you print this page you can draw arrows. As you look at the back
of the block you should have 2 seams that face in and 2 seams that face out for ease in alternating
blocks.
